Chimney Repairs: Materials, Methods and Options
A chimney has several parts that can fail. Here's what each repair involves.
Chimney repointing
Old, crumbling mortar is raked out of the joints and replaced with fresh mortar, sealing the brickwork against rain.
Haunching / flaunching
The sloped mortar around the base of the chimney pots sheds water off the top of the stack. When it cracks, water pours straight into the chimney. We break out the old flaunching and re-form it.
Chimney pot repairs
Loose, cracked or leaning pots are re-bedded or replaced so they're secure.
Flashing
The flashing seals the join between the chimney and the roof. Failed flashing is a very common leak point, and we replace it along with any damaged tiles around it.
