What it is
A re-roof means removing the old covering (tiles or slates, battens and underlay) and replacing it with a completely new, weatherproof system. For new builds and extensions, we install the full roof from the timbers up. Either way, you end up with a roof that's sound from the ridge to the gutter, not one that's been patched in places.

When you need it

Re-roofing isn't one-size-fits-all. The right approach depends on your property, the existing roof and what you want from it. Here's what's involved.
Tiles vs slates
Many homes have either concrete or clay tiles, or natural slate. Slate is thin, heavy and long-lasting, and suits a lot of older terraced and stone properties. Tiles come in a range of profiles and are often chosen on newer homes and extensions. We'll talk you through what suits your roof and the look of your street.
Underlay and battens
Beneath the tiles, the underlay is the roof's second line of defence against wind-driven rain, and the battens are what the tiles hang on. On a proper re-roof both are replaced: re-using tired materials is one of the most common reasons newer roofs fail early.
Ridges, verges and valleys
The edges and joins of a roof take the worst of the weather. We can finish ridges and verges with traditional mortar or with modern dry ridge and dry verge systems, which are mechanically fixed and don't rely on mortar that can crack and wash out over time.
Chimneys and flashings
A re-roof is the ideal time to deal with the chimney (repointing, flaunching and replacing lead or flashing), because the area is already open. Leaks around chimneys are among the most common problems we're called out to.
